Phlebotomy Training In Massachusetts

Massasoit Community College offers unique learning opportunities and hands-on clinical experiences for phlebotomists-to-be. The Phlebotomy Training Program is a one semester course, consisting of 8 credit hours that have been approved as a certification program for entry-level positions in the phlebotomy career. Students will complete several weeks of classroom lectures and lab studies, before beginning a clinical externship at an approved hospital for four weeks of hands-on practice.

Students of this phlebotomy training program will learn how to draw blood, collect other specimens, such as throat cultures, and how to interact with patients of differing ages, temperaments, and mental capacities. Phlebotomists-to-be will also go through extensive classroom conversations about the principles and methods of phlebotomy, as well as basic laboratory procedures, such as bloodwork processing and infection control.

Those who complete the MCC Phlebotomy Training Course will be eligible for hire in outpatient care centers, nursing homes, blood banks, blood mobiles, hospital emergency rooms, and other reputable medical facilities.

Renowned for their unique, effective approaches to teaching and learning to prepare phlebotomists-to-be for the medical field, Boston College offers a 5-hour continuing education class on phlebotomy for those seeking stepping stones into entry-level positions. This class, while shorter than most phlebotomy training course, is jam-packed lectures and hands-on lab practices.

Students will learn the basics of phlebotomy, such as drawing blood, anatomy and physiology of the vascular system, and medical terminology, as well as communication instructions on how to handle nervous, scared, or uncooperative patients. Think of this course as a phlebotomy overview for students who need a refresher before choosing to sit for the national phlebotomy certification exam.

Phlebotomists have some of the most important responsibilities in the medical profession, including being the link between other medical staff and patients. Some patients are fearful of having their blood drawn, or they may be afraid of needles, or they could be anxious about the impending bloodwork diagnostics. Phlebotomists have the task of putting patient anxieties at ease with compassionate, caring, understanding conversations. Drawing blood is secondary to making a patient feel safe, secure, and comfortable.

Coastal Career Academy offers a 16-week phlebotomy training program on those seeking an entry-level position into the medical field. While it is not required for phlebotomists to be nationally certified in the State of Massachusetts, graduates of this 200-hour course are still given the opportunity to sit for the national phlebotomy certification exam. This exam, if passed, will grant phlebotomists the legal right to practice phlebotomy at any outpatient care center, hospital, and other medical facilities throughout the U.S.

Offered by the Division of Health Sciences, and approved by the American Society of Pathology, the Phlebotomy Certificate Program from Mass Bay uses classroom lectures, hands-on clinical practice, and lab studies to teach phlebotomists-to-be.

Students who enroll in this course can expect 7 total credit hours of first-hand phlebotomy experience. The autumn and spring classes consist of 8-weeks of Saturday studies, as well as 8-weeks of weekday clinical practicums. While the summer phlebotomy courses take place during the weekdays throughout, 12 weeks divided into 6 week intervals for classroom lecture and clinical practicum.

For the first halves of this phlebotomy training program, students will learn the basic principles and methods of phlebotomy, such as drawing blood and other specimens, processing bloodwork, practicing safety procedures and infection control, and light clerical work. The State of Massachusetts does not require national certification for phlebotomists; however, those who complete this course are encouraged to seek national certification to give them more options for national opportunities in the phlebotomy career.

The RCC Phlebotomy Technician Training Program is designed for phlebotomists-to-be seeking a stepping stone into a solid medical career. This program has also been approved to meet the requirements of the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians Board. Consisting of 12 weeks of Tuesday and Thursday lasses, this phlebotomy technician training course combines lab studies, in-class lectures, and clinical practice at approved medical facilities.

Students will learn the basics of phlebotomy, beginning with introductions into medical terminology and simple procedures, blood-borne pathogens, infection control, venipuncture, capillary draws, heel pricks, anatomy and physiology of the human vascular system, and lab safety measures. Students will also be expected to follow strict safety guidelines, while maintaining a professional, courteous demeanor throughout the course.

Those who graduate from this phlebotomy training program must complete a mandatory internship. Following this, graduates are eligible to sit for the national phlebotomy certification exam, giving them legal right to work in medical facilities across the nation.

The Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program of STCC uses a combination of on-campus lectures and clinical practicum placements to give students a unique learning, hands-on learning experience. Tuition covers the required textbooks and liability insurance, as well as the national phlebotomy certification exam after completion of the course.

This phlebotomy training program consists of 166 hours of learning about the basics of phlebotomy, such as human anatomy and physiology, identification of patients before sample collection, correct labeling and processing of bloodwork and other specimens, light clerical duties, and interpersonal patient communication.

Students will be expected to demonstrate their knowledge of each section with take-home assignments and in-class quizzes and tests. Taking notes is a must, and students who complete this program will be eligible to take the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician Exam, as well as other national phlebotomy certification exams. Passing these exams gives new phlebotomists the legal right to practice phlebotomy in reputable medical facilities throughout America.
