What is the responsibility of a phlebotomist? A phlebotomist is assigned to take a donor’s or patient’s blood within a medical setting like blood banks, hospitals, laboratories, and others for analysis. The responsibility also encompasses needle insertion into veins for collection of blood into bags or tubes, swabbing the puncture areas with disinfectant, locating accessible veins for venipuncture, application of tourniquets on arms, etc. The phlebotomy program offered by Southeast Tech is a perfect cross-over course for those taking Nuclear Medicine.
