A Phlebotomy Technician Training Certificate Course is offered by Casper College to eligible students. As a graduate of the said course, you will be well-trained in the following core competencies:

• Professionalism – this is the capability to demonstrate and understand adequate respect for others whether through written, verbal, and non-verbal communication within the campus, clinical, laboratory, and classroom settings. This is also the skills in demonstrating adequate understanding of the collective effect that communication, appearance, and behavior have on the overall health care personnel image.
• Tactile – sufficient capability for assessing patient care via physical assessment.
• Visual – the ability to safely assess and observe patient with or without the use of corrective lenses
• Hearing – the auditory skills to safely assess and sufficiently monitor health needs
• Motor skills – fine and gross motor skills to adequately provide effective and safe patient care
• Mobility – the physical capability to stand for long periods of time, manipulate equipment, transfer and lift patients, assist clients, safely perform procedures, and move from one place to another

Description:

At Western Wyoming Community College, they offer Phlebotomy certification courses. Under this program, there are two major courses of importance, the principles of phlebotomy and the phlebotomy practicum. During the first course, students will be introduced to the practice and profession of phlebotomy. Major course activities focus on developing the know how and skills in doing various blood collection techniques and the various equipment needed. During this course, quality assurance, labeling, processing, handling, specimen acquisition, proper patient identification, universal precautions, and infection prevention will also be stressed on.

In the second course of the program will be the clinical laboratory internship where students practice and observe phlebotomy job tasks and skills. They will be practicing blood collection and various other skills on a variety of patient — from adults to infants alike — while ensuring safety, quality, proper patient identification, and maintaining patient privacy.
